Condo Construction Timelapse (Toronto, Canada)

This is a time lapse of a construction site in downtown Toronto, adjacent to where I lived a couple years ago. The beginning of the sequence is early May 2006, and the end is late December 2006. I filmed it from the corner of my living room with a Canon Rebel XT with a Sigma 55-200mm zoom lens, on a tripod. A laptop controlled everything. There are approximately 7000 frames. You’ll notice the picture has a slow “wobble” due to the daily heating and cooling of the carpet that the tripod sat on. If I had known this would happen I would have weighed it down! :) Several notes of interest: 1) There are actually several distinct construction projects visible in this film: somewhere between 8 and 10, a testament to the intense period of condo development Toronto experienced in this decade. 2) The famous old Molson brewery on the right side of the picture (in red brick) is gradually demolished to make way for, you guessed it, condos. 3) The moon and the stars go by in some of the frames in the middle of the movie. I had to go on vacation at one point so I left the system running during the night for a few days. 4) About halfway through the movie, PCL, the construction company, adorns the righthand building with a special new covering that is part advertisement and part weather protection system. This allows them to continue working comfortably and safely during high winds and cold weather. 5) The colors on the leaves of trees change about 90% of the way in, followed soon after by

W in Progress – Photo Time Lapse of the W Hotel & ACL Studio Construction in Austin, TX

Since March of 2009, I have been photographing the construction of the W Hotel, the new Austin City Limits Studio, and the residential condos currently under construction on 2nd Street in downtown Austin. Much like several of the other time lapse videos I have worked on in the past, I created this video by taking photographs from several vantage points and edited it all together into a time lapse video documenting the construction over time. When it is finished in December of this year, the W Hotel and residential condos above it will come in at 36 stories high, making it one of Austin’s tallest buildings. In 2011, the Austin City Limits Studio will move to it’s new location, greatly increasing the seating capacity from 300 to 2000. Great news for all those people like myself who stood in line at the UT studio location, only to have my hopes of getting in crushed :( Anyway, I hope you enjoy watching the video, and if you dig the music, check out Morris Orchids… they are great friends of mine from San Antonio and a band that you definitely must listen to!
