Is Toronto an attractive city for NBA players?

I saw some other questions where people said that Toronto probably won’t keep Bosh because it’s a small market, nobody wants to play in Canada, and that the team should move to a place like St. Louis or Minneapolis (dunno because Minnesota already has a team). Is Toronto that unattractive for NBA players to play in?

First of all, I’m not somebody who overhypes Toronto – locally there are some people who have this TO = centre of the world mentality, like the condo marketers who say Toronto is on par with New York and London – that just makes me roll my eyes. But on the other hand I think people are shunning Toronto too much – it’s still one of the bigger markets in North America. Maybe Bosh would rather be in NY or LA, but Toronto is much bigger than Cleveland or St. Louis at least. I’ve heard that a lot of international players want to play for the Raptors because they find it easier to get adjusted in Toronto, and that some players like it when they visit the Raptors on the road because Toronto is a party hotspot.

Sure, Steve Francis refused to sign with Vancouver because he didn’t like Canada, but do you think most NBA players really dislike playing in Toronto/Canada, or perceive it as a small market?

  1. I personally think every big name is going to stick with their current teams.

  2. I think that if Toronto brought some success back home, people would want to play there. Why, just look at my spurs, they brought some championships home! They just need to make it a winning city.

  3. Well if you were a big man Toronto would suck coz there are too many big men on that team already.

plus it is canada, who the hell wants to live there! ?

  4. I don’t think it’s a matter of it being a small market. It’s probably bigger than places like Cleveland, Charlotte, Milwaukee, etc. Although, it is tough to get media attention in the U.S. outside the country. Which is why I think Chris Bosh has been very underrated in his career. Also, many players don’t want to leave the country. There usually very far from their families. Besides the fact that it is very cold up there. So, I definitely don’t think it’s the worst place to play, but it’s not ideal either.

  5. And they don’t want Steve Nash?

  6. yea big time. im sure they all the players want to have sex with toronto.

  7. Well Toronto’s teams except for hockey has faced a lot of failure at achieving success…So I wouldn’t really want to play for a losing team.

  8. no one expects toronto to be attractive… so i’ll bet not too many players want to play there. i’m sure toronto will host a BADASS olympics if their bid ever gets accepted! i’d love go! acdc will be stopping by toronto in january! yea good point, take a flyer on toronto, people!
