Generally speaking, how good or bad are condos built in the 1980s?
Materials used? Energy efficiency? Things that should have been replaced or need to be replaced?
they are almost 30 yrs old,, just look at the condition.
the way any building is maintained has a lot to do with the condition after 20 yrs. More real wood was used in 80′s vs material made from wood chips and saw dust today. Heat and air would be worn out if not already replaced,, faucets on tub, lav, sinks would be worn out,, lav, sink would be worn, carpet/flooring, roof, water heater, stove/oven/microwave, dishwasher… sometimes cabinets look worn,, Formica covered counter tops can wear in 20 yrs,,
if it has brick veneer,, check for cracks. Look at bottom corners of any windows for cracks that angle towards corner. A sure sign of settling or movement. Look at plumbing vents coming out of roof,, if it is metal or plastic,, metal pipes (cast iron) can wear from people pouring drain cleaner down the drain,, check all doors to see how they fit,, if any movement in building the doors may rub at top corner or bottom corner,,
Have a building inspector check it out! Each home is different like fingerprints.
